Batik is one of the world cultural heritage from Indonesia which can act as a bridge of cultural understanding between Indonesia and the USA" First Lady of Indonesia 6th Presiden, Madam Ani Yudhoyono (SBY wife) said. This statement was delivered by Madam Ani Yudhoyono on the opening of Ann Dunham’s batik collection exhibition in Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/11). Ann Dunham is the mother of the US President, Barrack Obama.

The beauty of Indonesian batik must be presented and introduced to the world, Madam Ani Yudhoyono also said. In that exhibition, the First Lady also presented a part of her batik collection, including a little note of the memories of the batik. She also explained that batik influenced the life of Indonesians since they were born until they die.

Batik, in olds days, is used for carrying a baby, worn on the graduation day, worn as the match for kebaya, and used to cover the corpse. Therefore, Madam Ani Yudhoyono requested that the love and development of batik are continuously carried out so that we will more understand about batik and continue our tradition. The Minister of Culture and Tourism-Mr. Jero Wacik, Minister of Trade-Mrs. Mari Elka Pangestu, officials, and batik lovers attended the exhibition.
